Incorrect Scale Percentage Display for Placed Images in Illustrator

When placing an image at 100% the Links Info panel is reporting that the link is at 24% scale when it should be showing as 100%. Its not effecting the physical scale of the link but it is showing the incorrect values. How to fix? Seems to be a problem since 2025 update.

The problem is still present in illustrator 2026 v30.3.0. but I have an update:
this happen when you place a 300dpi PSD file with one or more layer that has no mask.
If you add a mask or an adjustment layer and than you save the file, Illustrator will as to update the links, and then the image scale value will show correctly in the Info panel.

It would be really important to fix this bug, because it’s essential for users in publishing and the printing industry to know the scale and resolution of an image placed in an Illustrator document.
It’s honestly unacceptable that this still hasn’t been fixed eight months after being reported, especially since it worked perfectly up to Illustrator 2025.

Thanks.

MacOS 15.6.1
Illustrator 30.1.0

Same problem here, placing a linked image the panel incorrectly shows the image scaled to 24% (it should be 100%).
In this way we are loosing control over the resolution of the images placed in the layout. There’s an high risk of printing files with low-resolution images.
Everything was working perfectly in illustrator 2025 (29.3.0).
Please fix it ASAP!

In Illustrator 2026 (30.0), the behaviour is consistent.
All file types linked or embedded, layered or flat are showing a scale percentage when their resolution is other than 72 ppi. Images with a 72 ppi resolution are shown as 100%.

Has there been any fix on this issue?  I placed a TIFF in  Ai 30. just now and it showed it at 12%.

The image is 22.4 wide x 14.933 at 600 ppi.  And Illustrator shows it at this size but it should be showing at 100%

This is gonna make life working a real nightmare.

Hi @francescay40856744, @Ryszard_R,

I appreciate you reaching out. I have informed the product team about this issue, so they can investigate it further, and I will update you as soon as I receive any feedback from them.

In the meantime, it would be very helpful if you could provide a brief screen recording that demonstrates your complete workflow, from placing the image to the point where the scale value appears incorrectly in the Links panel. This will assist me in replicating your exact steps during testing.

Additionally, when you have a chance, please try performing the same steps in Illustrator version 30.0 and let me know if the scale continues to report incorrectly there as well.

I look forward to your update so I can proceed with this matter alongside the team.

@francescay40856744  Illustrator is not very consistent when showing the scale percentages of images.
A 300 ppi linked PSD file is shown as 100%
When embedded it changes to 24% (which is the size you will get when you increase the resolution from 72 to 300 ppi (without resampling).
A 300 ppi linked jpeg (or tiff) file will show 24% in the Links panel.
When embedded it shows the same 24%.

Hi @francescay40856744,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details. Could you please confirm the exact version of Illustrator you're using and your operating system details? I tested this in version 28.7.8, 29.5.1 and others and also saw the scale showing as 24% when placing an image. However, when I manually scaled the image afterward, the scale value did update correctly in the Links panel. You could try this on your side and see if it helps reflect the correct scale.

Let me know what you observe.

Looking forward to your update so we can help further!
