Please read the documentation about blends:

How to blend objects in Illustrator

The number of copies is in the transform effect:

    Effects > Distort&Transform > Transform

    You probably used

Object > Transform > Transform each

What do you mean with "it should look realistic"?

the increase in size should look realistic, aAA small(a)middle(A)Big(A)
it should look smooth in the increase of the size, not directly smallBIG.
