inside letter space

Hi! I created my own font with illustrator by drawing it with the pen tool. Now I want to fill colour in the letter but it doesn't work with the letters that have inside space like "A, O, R, Q, P" etc. 

I will add screenshots!

 

I hope someone can help me!

Select both shapes > Right-Click > Create compound path.

Or select both shapes. Window > Pathfinder. Click the second icon.

Or select both shapes. Object > Live Paint > Make. Use the live paint tool to color the shapes.

Are these compound paths? If so, check the winding rule (even-odd or non-zero) in the extended Attributes panel.
