Intersect does not work in the Illustrator Passfinder.

I want to extract only the overlapping part of the turquoise wall on the right.

 

So, if i choose together and press the passfinder-intersect,


it says 'The filter produced no results. please select two overlapping paths'


can somebody help this?

I don't know what a clipping mask is because I'm a student learning to be an illustrator.
