Intersecting shapes using Pathfinder leaves residue

In the figure on left, the black shape represents the result intersecting the yellow circle and the gray shape. If I zoom it to 64k% (figure on the right), I see a sliver of yellow between the gray and black shapes which means that the intersect tool is ls leaving a 'residue' which it ideally should not and therefore the result is not accurate. I've tried this on both Mac and Windows systems running 2017.0.2  release of Illustrator CC but the result is the same.

Can't seem to understand the reason for this 'gap' between the two paths on intersection as is clearly visible from the outline view.

Try to set the Precision in the Pathfinder panel Options to a very small number like 0.001 pt.

Thanks a lot. It worked. I didn't know such an option existed. It was set to the default value of 0.028pt. I have been using Illustrator for about 2 years now but never had this issue or maybe I never noticed it. But setting the precision to 0.001 pt totally worked. My head was wrapped around this problem for 3 days, now I feel relieved.

Good to hear that solved your problem.

I think the default should be set to the optimal precision possible, unfortunately this gets reset when Illustrator is restarted.

I made a feature request to make a better, sticky default, maybe you can do the same:

Do you have a small, yellow stroke on the circle?

No I don't have a stroke. I have been using illustrator for over two years.
