Intertwine does not work when poster is made into a PDF

In Ai the ribbon is intertwined and when I do print preview it is fine. When I make it into a PDF, it does not acknowledge the layers and the ribbon is just sitting on top of the wrist.

I got the hands from the adobe library, put a ribbed glass filter on it, then used the path to put a ribbon around the hands. I used intertwine for the wrapping. The text is in a pattern.
When on Adobe Acrobat I have the most updated form.

Which version of PDF are you using to save the file? Illustrator will often save PDF files in a default setting of Acrobat 7/PDF 1.6. The intertwine effect may be preserved by saving the PDF in Acrobat 8/PDF 1.7 format.

Could you post a screenshot showing just how you prepared this art? Please include the layers panel and any other pertinent information. Also include what method that you used to make the PDF.

If you did not use Illustrator’s Intertwine function to do this check out https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/manage-objects/reshape-transform-objects/create-intertwined-objects.html for information on how to do so. I have tested exporting to a PDF after using the function and it works fine.
