Before I update  my MacBook to OS X El Capitan, I want to make sure I'll be able to use Photoshop and Illustrator (CS6 - updating to CC is currently not an option for me). Thanks!

    Hi,

Illustrator CS6 is not officially supported on OSX El Capitan.

Refer to the system requiements here: System requirements | Adobe Illustrator

Since installing El Capitan I have issues in each CS6 program I use. Some things are relatively minor for me, but the big one is that none of the fonts I've installed show up in any of the CS6 programs I use (PS, ID, and AI). This despite Fontbook showing that they are all installed currently on my system.  Hoping that the latest update to El Crapitan might fix this but pretty doubtful. So far I see no benefit to upgrading and might actually need to downgrade to make my programs work properly again.

    Hi to everybody.

I use Photoshop CC 2015 and Illustrator CS6. I just changed my iMac and obviously i had to re.install Illustrator. After downloading the last version of Java everything apparently is working fine. Then I realize that when I open old documents using the standard Helvetica (system font installed with MacOs) the font is not visible. It works fine in Photoshop CC but no way to use it in Illustrator. I cleard the font cache, then from Font Book I restored the system fonts but nothing changed...

I have many fonts installed and only the standard Helvetica give me the problem. For a friend of mine the same problem happens with a free font from dafont. I downloaded that font on my computer and for me it works fine. Obviously we have the same OS and the same Illustrator version.

So, this means that there is a problem with the fonts, but I don't understand if the problem is in the OS or in Illustrator...

Hope that someone wlil give a hint to solve this annoying problem.

Please. This problem has nothing to do twith the thread. In order not to confuce everything open a new thread in cases like this.

There's a general problem with Helvetica on Mac OS. Pleae do some research

Here is an article about running both OS: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/get-el-capitan-on-your-mac-without-losing-your-existing-os-x-install-36235…

PSD CS6 is running pretty good on my machine. It's is not as snappy as it was with Mavericks. But, both OSX and Nvidia have been getting regular updates and it is very hopeful. I'm running strictly on El Capitan as I've got some time before the next assignment. So far PSD, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Audition and Encore CS6 have all been performing well. Microsoft Office has been experiencing glitches however. I do find that I have to run with Apple video drivers (rather than Nvidia drivers) on occasion if screen response is slow. But, then the next updates seem to fix them again. But, by all means, do run a separate HD and dual boot.

Just looking at the posts in this thread makes me worry about upgrading to El Capitan ...... I wondered if anyone knows if you can install the new OS onto an external disc leaving Yosemite as it is on the main HD? I see how to make a bootable installer of El Capitan on an external drive on various sites, but that's not what I mean. I'd like to give it a try out to see how it goes with CS6 without wiping out Yosemite.... I'm sure I used to run different systems off different discs at one point.

An external or additional internal drive with the "experimental" OS surely is advisable. I am handeling it like that in the hope that some future update either of CS6 or El Capitan is going to fix the issues. In the meantime I can work with the functioning Yosemite/CS6 combination. Good luck!

CS6 is EOL (End of Life) and will NEVER be updated for either new Mac or Windows operating systesm

Apple has put out a 10.11.1 bug fix update, but since CS6 is EOL, you update at your risk

Illustrator CS6 (apart from having to install Java 6 first) and especially Photoshop CS6 are not working properly under El Capitan 10.11.1. I did a clean install of the OS and the CS6 applications. Illustrator does not show the preview of the path's profile; it’s a minor but nevertheless annoying glitch. Far worse however are the black preview windows and black dialog boxes in Photoshop. With these bugs it is impossible to work - I had to stick to Yosemite where everything is fine.

Hey if you can find anything on the internet where Adobe states that, please post it in this forum.  If anything it will add weight to them being in breach of published statements (statements like this posted on the internet and or via email are LEGALLY BINDING).

It borderlines on illegal as the amount of money paid for the product is considered "not fit for purpose" given the amount the User can interact with said product...  You would expect software that costs your over £500-£2600 to last more than three years, especially as Adobe pretty much dominates the Creative Market it would be concerned Unfair to the Consumer.  The only fair outcome is to upgrade everyone from CS6 to a comparable CC bundle or stand alone product for 3 years free.  All those who elected to upgrade to CC, well, sorry to say that was your choice to do so.  Adobe should take the hit for this.

It is the responsibility of Adobe to make sure their products work (or at least the vast majority of them) for ALL OS upgrades whether the End User is running OSX or Windows etc.  This is sheer LAZINESS.  I know what goes on in the world of software testing and product verification, I've led test teams in this field!

Since installing El Capitan I have had several nagging issues that, though not fatal, make working in CS6 annoying and time-consuming. Each person's situation is probably different. I have particular issues with InDesign. The beach ball is a constant friend these days. I have a good amount of RAM and I did not have this problem using Yosemite. When I try to export a file to pdf, it will not automatically replace the previous pdf even if it is closed. I get a message saying that I need administrator permission that I may not have. I have to trash that old pdf then when I trash it, it won't always delete. I have to quit InDesign to get a fresh start on the process of exporting my file. Also, certain photo files (not all) when placed in a document, start out looking good, but then change to a weird dithered looking version. It's as if I applied a mezzotint filter. The display performance is set at high quality but the photo looks bad. It looks fine in the pdf and prints properly but in ID, nothing gets it to look right. I did install the legacy Java update as instructed after the OSX update. Illustrator is working but is beach ball intensive. Photoshop has not presented any issues as yet, but ID is really affected.

Photoshop CS6 has the same issues that Photoshop CC has under El Capitan. Probably the same story for other CS apps.

It's not Apple, it's Adobe.  Their developers should be ensuring that their products works with both operating systems.
