Is it Possible to Create your own Shortcut Keys?

I use the Pathfinder Tool a lot, especially the Unite Feature. I am an on Macbook Pro. Can I create

my own shortcut key for just the Unite Feature?

You can at least create a custom action to do the Pathfinder Unite and assign a keyboard shortcut to that action.
