Is it possible to save swatches that can be opened up for use in any Illustrator file

Correct answer Monika Gause

How do I save it to swatches so whenever I create a new file I can load up the swatches?

You set up the swatches in the document in the way you want and then you either save as a template or you create a new document profile as shown in the video.

There are many was as mentioned. I  create 2 versions, one in RGB (Digital) and the other in CMYK (print). Make sure to use the correct  File >>Document Color Mode >> RGB or CMYK if color accuracy is important to you.

You can save them into a CC library

Or you can save a library file via the Swatches panel

Or you can save them into a template file

Or you can save a New Document profile.

What is your goal? Having them present automatically in any new file? Or just a floating library?

Yes, to have them present automatically in any new file

In the swatches panel of your new file?

Then you need to either save a New doument profile or a template.

This video is about changing the default font, but the process applies to swatches as well. https://youtu.be/5kcrHjSbN5k
