Is there a way to get the older version of Illustrator back? I can't save anything and don't have the time to troubleshoot all the workarounds.

You can use the Creative Cloud desktop applications to download recent versions. Anything older than what is listed in your Creative Cloud desktop app will require you to contact Adobe Customer Care directly.
