Is purchasing Pantone Connect the new norm now?

Brief description: I suddenly find myself in a position at work where I have to troubleshoot any issues dealing with design software when it was previously taken care of by another party. It's been ages, but my question is regarding Pantone colours not appearing in Illustrator and I'm getting various news online about needing to purchase Pantane Connect.

I want to confirm, is purchasing Pantone Connect the only way to update Pantone colors in Adobe Suite from now on?
