Is there a better way to create this projection effect in AI?

I’ve tried Effects > Stylize > Projection, but found that it creates a spotty projection that’s hard to control over large areas.

@dublove I 100% agree with @Ton Frederiks Drop Shadow would be more ideal effect:

@dublove Did you try the Drop Shadow Effect at 100%? If so, what did you find spotty?
