Is there a way to change the default Color Settings in Illustrator to our custom preset?

I work in a firm with 41 designers. We all use Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.3.1. We have created a custom preset for Color Settings: Adobe RGB (1998) and U.S. Sheetfed Coated v2. When Illustrator quits out unexpectedly the Color Settings reset to the default: North American General Purpose 2 [sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2]. Illustrator crashes or quits out on everyone every few days if not every day. We have told the designers when Illustrator crashes they need to reselect our custom preset. But people forget and then work on and save files in the default Color Settings. When another designer opens their files using our custom preset the color formulas change. The colors may look the same but they don't print the same. We then have to go in and manually re-input the formulas. If designers are not using global swatches this becomes very time intensive. We pass files around quite a bit amongst ourselves and would like to maintain consistent colors.

I have also been told we have the same issue with Photoshop CC 2015.5.1. We use the same Color Settings for Photoshop: Adobe RGB (1998) and U.S. Sheetfed Coated v2.

We use Bridge to synchronize the settings across all Adobe Applications but this does not prevent an Application from reverting to the default settings when it crashes.

Is there any way to change the default Color Settings to our custom preset so when Illustrator or Photoshop crashes our Color Settings remain selected?

Or is there anyway to stop and Application from reverting to its default Color Settings?

Tested with 2015.3 on OS 10.10.5 Yosemite, and could not replicate the issue by quitting. I assume you saved a preset for Illustrator and choose that custom name you choose in your list from bridge like this, correct?

We don't have many crashes except when opening many client files using the old type 1 fonts and that is random. Next week we are going to Sierra in preparation for CC 2018 so can test again, as your assumption might be correct.

Please quit all apps except bridge, do a syncronize settings, then quit bridge to lock that in. Then boot illustrator and let me know if your  Adobe RGB - Sheetfed is holding.

I quit all Apps except Bridge, synchronized settings and re-launched Illustrator and it held the color setting. We will see what happens next time I crash. I now am thinking our frequent crashing may be a CC vs. Mac OS compatibility issue as well.

I have just been told that our parent company is working out a partnership with Adobe that will move us to the latest, greatest version of CC, I believe 2018, in December and until then there is nothing that will be done to resolve the problem.

Thanks for the helpful thoughts. Here's hoping the upgrades in December resolve the problem.

Sounds good. Feel free to start a new post if you would like help with why your files crash often.

You do have some complex things going on, but we have helped many people on the forum. From basic  suggestions as Save As and turn pdf compatible Off, to more complex such not nesting symbols in each other. Screenshots and knowing exact details of you workflow can be useful in helping us diagnose you situation.

In CC 2018 I may have good news for you as the default new swatch is supposed to be global from what I hear.

That doesn't look like normal behaviour at all.

Crashes shouldn't happen that frequently

And also the preferences shouldn't get reset after each crash.

I suppose you have a reason for running this old version - are you running a third party plugin?

I think we crash so much because we create what I call "heavy" files. This means many, many art boards, Gaussian blurs, multiple placed imagery, etc. I have kinda accepted the crashing as just the way it is. We are running Mac OS 10.12. Sierra and most of us have 32GB RAM if not more.

Previous versions of Illustrator did not reset the preferences after crashing.

We are not running third party plugins with Illustrator. We have Adobe Illustrator 2015.3.1 because that is what our holding company allows.

Any other thoughts?

Could it be some incompatibility between Mac OS 10.12 and Adobe Illustrator 2015.3.1?

According to the specs 10.11 is recommended and 10.12 is not even mentioned in the requirements. So it may have something to do with the system not being too suitable.
