Issue with exporting at high PPI

I need to have a 300ppi PDF or JPEG file. I have tried exporting my 10000x14000px file as both a PDF and JPEG file at 300ppi and been unsucessful. I received a "!now" error with the PDF route and the JPEG route said I needed to lower the resolution. The 300ppi is required for the printing I'm doing. I have the most updated version of Illustrator and working on a brand new Mac. Any ideas on how to keep the 300 (or higher) ppi for a PDF or JPEG file?

Hello, abbiewilson1229

When exporting as a JPEG file

  • If you started with an artboard size of 1000x14000px, export at 72ppi. Then, change the exported file to a resolution of 300 ppi using Photoshop or the like.
  • When exporting from Illustrator at a resolution of 300ppi, create with an artboard setting of 2400x3360px. You can export at almost 10000x14000px 300ppi. The number of pixels may be output slightly different.
    72 ÷ 300 = 0.24

When saving as PDF

  • If you don't downsample the link image, it will keep its original resolution.
    Vector data is resolution independent.

If you are working in vector, a .pdf will be print quality. Vector graphics are not made of pixels. Ask your Printer what preset .pdf setting they want and export that.
