Issues with setting paper type when printing in Illustrator on Windows 11

I've just had to upgrade my laptop and it now has Windows 11 (rather than 10) and i'm now having issues setting the paper type in Illustrator.

I follow all the usual steps of going to Print>Setup> More Settings>Paper Type

The material I print often requires multiple copies, which need to be printed individually, then checked, before printing another - mainly due to the thickness of the card required and the manual feed mechanism of my printer. It all has to be done by hand one by one.

Previously on Windows 10, when I set the paper type (thicker paper), this would remain until I closed the document I was printing. Now, every time I print, I have to go back through the whole process of Print>Setup>More Settings>Paper Type because it doesnt remember the setting for the document, even though i've not closed it, or done anything else.

It is incredibly frustrating and taking so much extra time! Any help would be thankfully received!

Have you checked under Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & Scanners > Printing preferences? You can set defaults there.

Hi Bobby, thank you for the reply.

It isn't that I can't change the settings, I can (you can do that straight from Illustrator). I just have to do it every single time I run a print, even when I have not closed the file, and it's only been a few minutes since the previous print of exactly the same document.

I have to run each print individually to check the quality, and also to hand feed the card, so cannot do multiples at once. Previously on Windows 10, the settings remained the same until I closed the file. Now I have to go to the detailed printer settings and change the paper type every time, so if printing 20 items, its 20 times. Its just really irritating and takes so much time.

While you can change print settings from within Illustrator it might be more likely Windows will keep print settings defaults if you change the defaults under Windows Settings rather than do so via the print dialog box.
