How do I knockout the white circle outlines and make them transparent

Make sure that your white lines (strokes) are converted into areas. Then you can subtract the white elements from the coloured area with the pathfinder.

To clarify a couple points made by @pixxxelschubser:

1. Convert strokes to to areas using Object > Path > Outline Stroke

2. To use Pathfinder on the shapes, use the Minus Front button (top row)

3. You can see that you can now see through the circle shapes. I put another object behind it to show the result.
