Question

LAB swatch converts to CMYK when added to a Library for sharing

For consistancy sake, Spot Colors with LAB values are required for a set swatchs I'd like to share with a work group.  However, when the library is created and the LAB swatches are added, they convert to CMYK when used in a new file.  Maybe I'm doing somethign wrong, but was hoping someone might have had this same issue.

Is there a way to ensure that the LAB values assigned to the Swatch(s) will remain as LAB and not convert to CMYK when shared via Library in Illustrator.

I'm currently running AI 2022 26.5.2

Any help woudl be greatly approciated...so thansk in advance!

Global colors, Spot colors, gradients, brushes and pattern swatches are not very well supported in CC libraries.

But as a workaround you can drag an object using a brush/pattern/gradient/global color to the CC Library

You can also drag multiple items using different brushes/patterns/gradients/global/spot colors together into a CC library to simulate a library. Text objects must be grouped before adding them as graphics.

The easiest way to add them to a new document is to hold down the Alt key when you drag them from the library and place them in a new document. The patterns/gradients/global colors automatically get added to your swatches panel.

You can hit escape before you click to place the object(s) or delete the dragged library items because the swatches and brushes are now part of the document.

Ton, Thank you for this workaround!

It is absolutly absurd that CC Libraries don't support LAB values (nor is it well documented.)

Yes, Mike, unfortunately reliable accurate colors do not seem to have a high priority.

When a color gets added, just the numbers are added and global/spot colors are mistreated (and I have been complaining since 2017).
