Latest CC Export Panel Configuration. Naming and Location Issues

Sorry if duplicate. Could not find what I was looking for.

Issue 1) If I have 10 artboards, have artboard 5 selected, and click to add a "new" artboard, it numbers it sequentially which is fine. Where the problem happens is after export it keeps all these artboard sequential numbering as the file name. So, even though after I rearrange my artboards in Illustrator and they appear in the order I have placed them, this is thrown out the window on export. Believe it or not this is a huge time consumer when passing off work to contractors or others as file names are no longer relative to a script for example.

Issue 2) Why do I have to select the folder location for output EVERY TIME!!!! Seriously, there has to be some settings I am missing. It is all too typical to have many AI files open and needing to export, how can I configure to just export the files to the location of the original AI file?

I have held off on these questions since the update, thought I could get around them, but they are such a tedious pain in the butt that is ever present and I can't do it.

Does anyone know where you can adjust settings for the export panel? I want the export location to default to the .ai file location (like it used to). And I would like the export file names to match the "artboard" names not the sequential order of creation (like it used to).

There are some workarounds if I understood problem right :

Issue 1)

1. Finalize your artboard sequence (any artboard at any with whatever number)

2. Select artboard tool

3. Press ctrl/cmd + A to select all the artboards in the document

4. Go to Control panel / Properties panel and artboard name field

5. Write any name in that and do Enter

Result : Artboards will be numbered. Like if you entered "Artboard" in the name field artboard name will be renamed to "Artboard-1", "Artboard-2",etc. in the sequence you have them in the artboard panel.

Issue 2) If you want to export artboards / asset in png/jpeg/svg/pdf you can use export for screens dialog.

1. With your file open go to File > Export >Export for Screens

2. Select your location at which you want to export (this needs to be set just for the first time)

3. Select the format/s that you want to export and other setting

4. Export your files

Result : When you visit the dialog next time your location will be saved.

P.S. : You need to be on latest version of illustrator to have some of these functionalities.

As for the artboard names: don't you rename them?

I don't wuite understand that: please post more details and examples.

Hey Monika, thanks for the reply!

For the artboard names, I could rename them, however this last week for example I worked on 7 video scripts/storyboards each of which were 40 frames and above. With client feedback/changes, and tying the order of our storyboard docs with the order of the artwork files... if I move Artboard 43 between Artboard 10 and Artboard 11, how do I rename 43 to 11...

I just remember that Illustrator would export my artboards as "ai-file-name-(N).png", "(N)" referring to the order of the artboard in my workspace. I have had to adjust my workflow since the last release so was just hoping I was missing a config screen somewhere?
