Layer becomes transparent

Hi,

I'm pretty new to illustrator and I'm running into a strange problem when I try to order my layers. The layer that I place on top in my layers panel is transparent. How can I fix this?

Nikki,

As I (mis)understand it, in the Appearance palette you can see a that an Opacity lower than 100% (a certain degree of transparency) is applied to the Layer, and that is to be dragged into the bin (in the Appearance palette).

Layers don't have a background color in Illustrator. You want to have a color, you need to draw an object and apply a fill to it.

Thanks for responding! What’s happening is the shapes that make up my top layer have a transparency to them and you can see the layers underneath them. But every shape in my layers have a fill color and when I separate them apart, they all look the way they’re supposed to. The transparency only happens when I try to put what I want as my top layer on top. Instead of being in front, it becomes somewhat transparent and you can see the other layers underneath. If that made any sense lol.
