Layers

I'm new to Adobe Illustrator. I purchased an AI file from an artist that contains multiple vector graphics. When I place it in AI, it's one file. I can't figure out how to access each graphic individually. It appears to be one large layer, rather than individual layers for each graphic. How can I separate each individual graphic? Thank you!

Correct answer Monika Gause

Did you use File > Place?

It might be better to just open the file: File > Open

Danielle,

Your description can be different occurrencies.

It will help helpers if you can show a screenshot of at least part of the artwork, preferably with something selected, along with the expanded Layer in the Layers panel and also with the Appearance panel shown. You can deselect everything, and then Click on the chosen artwork with the Direct Selection Tool; you can do it with and without holding Alt/Option while you Click, and then post both screenshots.

Please use the Insert Images button at the top of the Reply box (it looks like moon over mountains).

Edit: And what Ton said while I had to restart Illy.

Can you show the expanded Layers panel?
