Library SVGs rendering wrong when placed

I'm working on a set of posters for work and when placing SVG icons from my Library they render incorrectly, adding points and changing point locationas. Attached is an image of the way the icon is rendering in my file (left) versus opening the Library item directly (right). 

I can copy and paste from the original files but that's not the point of having a Library.

Note: The Library item is 'flattened' aka not using strokes or anything and is a complete single shape.
