Locate Image Inefficiency, Broken Links

I use a lot of linked pixel images in Illustrator. Oftentimes, when I have changed the name of an enclosing folder on my desktop (or moved the enclosing folder), the links to the images get broken. Then, when I re-open the document, I have to manually go through every single image and relink them. The problem is when I use the [Please Locate "Image Name Here"] dialog box, I have to manually type the name of every single image one by one. Why can't the name of the image autofill in its entirety in the search box?

It's a long-standing question unfortunately. Why can InDesign do this but not Illustrator?

Here are some uservoice links to vote on. I wish I could offer more:

Hi. Try moving the Illustrator file inside the images folder, open the file and Save as in the original location.

This would be a good suggestion if there was a single images folder, but that is not the case. Images are pulled from folders from various projects spanning a decade of different photoshoots, different resolutions, etc.

I agree, InDesign is very smart with missing links.

Another way to make sure that Illustrator finds the images is to put them in a folder named links and tha folder should be next to the Illustrator file.
