Question

Locking panels on right side.

I am working on a macbook pro with OS 12.5 and AI version 27.9

I like to have the working panels such as Properties, Layers, Apperance, etc, on the right side of my workspace window. I get all of them lined up, "connected" to each other and to the right side, but when I re-open the file the next time those panels have floated over to the left side, overlapping and unattached to the workspace window.

Is there a way to "lock" the working panels to the right side, or make that the default position?

The workspace should stay. Do you have the application frame turned on? Is there perhaps a second monitor attached? Does Illustrator crash when you quit it? When was your last system reboot?

Application Frame is turned ON.

NO 2nd monitor

AI does not crash

I shut down the computer and fully restart regularly. Upon restart, the panels are in the wrong place.

I have the same machine (an M1 Macbook Pro) and Mac OS 12.6.5. Illustrator does not mess the panels after rebooting. Did you already try and reset the preferences? Since that will erase your settings, you might want to rename the preferences folder - that can be made undone in case it does not help.
