Logo advice

Hey guys!

My company has a 3D rendering of our logo that they really like and don't seem to get the fact that it's not a vector. What I'm doing is making an Illustrator look-alike (as close as I can) to the rendering.

What I'm wondering is how safe you guys think it is to use:

1. Gradients

2. Blur effects

3. Opacity

My take is that I really should avoid all three of those and do my best with solid colors, but I really want to hear what you guys think.

(I'm an experienced designer so forgive this newb-sounding question.)

What do you want to use it for?

That's actually a really good question.

Obviously, it's not going to work for embroidery so it's a moot point, but there are a zillion other uses for trade shows. Let me think about it from that viewpoint.

I'm wondering what I'd want it for instead of just using the high resolution render. A vendor asked for a vector version and we had to send a simple, flat version and the folks in charge didn't like that.

What they will use it for (the vendors) is a toss-up.

Sorry, I don't know what that is.

My point would be to think in terms of production techniques.

Laser cutting

vinyl cutting

or large printing?

engraving?
