Lost workspace, symbols, templates and Custom preferences settings after updating Illustrator

Sorry about the trouble. I agree with @Monika Gause. Please check if you are able to locate multiple Illustrator settings folders in the following location? If yes, then share the screenshot with us.

• On Windows: <OSDisk>\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator <version number> Settings\<locale> (e.g. en_US)\x64\Adobe Illustrator Prefs
• On Mac: <OSDisk>/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator <version number> Settings/<locale>
  (or paste this in Fnder > Go > Go to Folder > ~Library/Preferences/ and look for this folder "Adobe Illustrator <version number> Settings")
  
  

Also, I would request you to please share a few more details like:

• OS and version of current Illustrator
• Do you remember from which Illustrator version you updated to the current one?
• Did this happen for the first time?
• Were there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
• Do you use any backup software like TimeMachine on Mac? If yes, then you can find those old settings or preferences folders.

In the Creative Cloud app there is a setting to migrate the settings or not to.

There is also a setting that deletes the old version.

Personally I do not migrate the old settings, but I also do not delete the old versions.

There might be issues with migrated preferences.

What you should do is avoiding to delete the old version before yoiu have taken out all your settings. Here is a list of where they are: http://vektorgarten.de/illustrator-settings.html

You can try and migrate them when updating. You might perhaps need to reset the preferences later, if you are getting issues. Keyboard shortcuts might not always work in newer version if there have been too many changes.
