Maintaining Graphic Styles for Multiple Items

Using CC 2017

Apologies if this has been asked but I can't find it on a search.

I have recently started using Illustrator after years of doing simple graphics in InDesign.

With InDesign, if you select an Object Style, and draw an item, the item has that Object Style applied, both the characteristics of the style, and the tag of that Object Style.

In Illustrator, if you select a Graphic Style, and draw an item, the item has the characteristics of that Graphic Style but doesn't by default actually have that Object Style tag. In order to assign it the tag of that Graphic Style you need to click on the name in the Graphic Style pallet.

ie. if you select it the item isn't highlighted in the Object Style pallet and, more importantly, if you choose Select > Same > Graphic Style it isn't selected unless you have actively apply the Graphic Style tag.

This seems to be a bit of a faff and I am not sure what the reasoning is behind it. Is there a way of forcing objects to have Object Style tags as you draw them rather than making it a separate step after you have drawn them?

Thanks

Have solved it myself.

Appearance Pallet > New Art has Basic Appearance should be unticked.

Hi --

I'm not sure if this is the same question so I apologize if it is but here is my question.

I have a number of objects that I have applied a graphic style too. I'd like to modify that style and have all the objects that I had applied that style too change based on the changes I've made to the style. However, this doesn't happen. Is this possible? Have I not applied the styles correctly to the objects?

Thanks

Rich

Have you already redefined the graphic style in the Flyout menu of the Appearance palette?
