Manual leading and kerning for type is acting strange!

Recently, I've noticed when working with an Illustrator document containing multiple text boxes, manual type manipulations are acting strange.  For instance, instead of applying kerning to the type selected within a particular text box, it applies the commands to the type I worked with and/or selected prior to it (on the same page of the document.)

What's even more confusing is the copy that is being affected by the commands – (intended for type I am trying to change in a different box on the page and IS selected), isn't even selected within its particular text box???

What is this and how do I fix it???

Strange that should not happen unless maybe a plug in is conflicting, how does this look when it prints?

I did have GPU preview changing position on items that are not selected, so could possibly do this on kerning. Try Command E to turn off GPU preview.
