Map Illustrator Artboards to Photoshop Smart Objects

Is there any way to automatically link/map illustrator artboards to Photoshop smart objects?

At the moment I'm having to export for screens as PNG and have the output linked, but it'd be nice to keep it all vector and have it update automatically.

This might be a job for Creative Cloud Libraries. Create a CC Library and drag the artwork from your artboard(s) to the Library. Then go to Photoshop and drag your artwork to your Photoshop document. It'll have a cloud icon which indicates it's linked to that artwork in the Creative Cloud. If you want to make it a smart object, you can right-click the layer and Convert to a Smart Object.

Do you know if this this would have implications if I were to send the file onto someone else to work on?

Would they also have access to the CC library?

Have you tried in Photoshop:

File > Place and Link and then select a multi-artboard file?
