Measure Tool Not Respecting Scale Compared to Dimension Tool in Illustrator
I have a drawing that’s at 1:200 scale. I can use the Dimension tool to measure a distance on my drawing and it will correctly say that a 50 metre line is 50 metres long. Super.
But if I use the Measure tool, the Distance ignores the Scale setting (I set it to 1:200 in the Dimension tool - surely this should now be a global setting for my whole document). So a line that is 50 metres long, is now 0.25 metres long according to the Measure tool. In the Measure tool’s options, I can set the Scale for the Area, but not the linear measurements, which is just silly. And that brings me to this bug report: The measure tool is useless when it comes to distances - it completely ignores any Scale settings. It is also completely wrong when it comes to Areas - to get it to give a - hopefully - accurate reading, I have to multiply the scale by itself - in my case, the drawing is at 1:200, so I have to set the Area Scale in the Measurement Tool’s options to 1:40,000 (200 x 200), which is just ridiculous.
I’m hoping that maybe we’ll get an Area readout available in the Dimension tool, which does indeed respect scale settings, and we can bin the hideously rubbish Measurement tool for good.
