Measuring a scaled object?

Please help.  How do I accurately measure an object that has a particular scale?  Ex. we perform and design vehicle wraps.  The template has a 1:20 scale on the drawing.  How do I enter that scale into the measuring tool of Illustrator to accurately measure the sq.. footage of this object?

    You can't.

    Illustrator doesn't work in scale.

    You might try the plugin VectorScribe. With it you can measure in scale.

    Barry,

    You will need some calculations. If the scale had been 1:12, you could just measure the inchage.
