Missing File Link in the recently opened files from taskbar

Recently I came across this issue of missing .ai file links from taskbar right click recently opend files list.
This issues only affects the .ai files. Rest files such as images (.jpg, .png etc..) and pdf files are not affected.
pls help me out on how to solved this issue.

does the file exist in the origional location ? if yes, right click the file from the origional location, select oepn with, then select adobe illustrator , check always use this app to pen this file type.
