Question

missing items when opening the pdf in illustrator

Hello Adobe community,

I need to modify a figure  (a genomic region) in a pdf file using the illustrator. The file is 2.1 MB. When I open it in illustrator, I miss some part of the figure.  Is there any way to fix this problem?

Thank you.

You're going to have to ask this question of Cairo support since that appears to be what program created the PDF.

I think you've hit the limit to how many points can be on a single path in Illustrator. Although Illustrator supposedly can handle up to 32000 by design, a sample of some of your data lines is pretty darn close to that, so. Illustrator can only show what it can and truncates the remainder.

You could try export from Cairo as EPS or PostScript (which it supposedly does), but I think you will get the same problem.

Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editor.

Hello @bagdeser_9880,

Would you mind sharing a link to a sample file after uploading it to a file-sharing service and screenshots of your workflow and the problem encountered along with the version of Illustrator/OS installed on your computer, so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Anubhav,

Here is the link for a sample file.  I use illustrator 2024 on MacOS Monterey.

I need to move the data to generate overlaps and change the color, stroke density etc.

thank you.
