"Missing Profile - The doc does not have an embedded CMYK profile"

For the first time ever last Wednesday each time I open a file in AI - CS3 I get the same message: "Missing Profile - The doc does not have an embedded CMYK profile". I looked in library>colorsync>profiles and sure enough they were gone? I downloaded new profiles from Adobe, installed them in library>colorsync>profiles - and still the same thing with each file I open. I dragged AI to the trash, re-installed AI from my disc repeated the process with the same results - HELP!

I don't seem to be able to find any info on the Adobe forum, I realize I need to upgrade but for now what is the solution - Thanks in advance. Boatingislife!

What is the problem exactly? Should your document have an embedded CMYK profile? Was one embedded, but you are still receiving this message?

Do you realise that you have posted in the scripting forum… Is this a general question or script related issue? The dialog in question has nothing to do with the available colour profiles… Its just that none have been assigned and saved in the document in question… ( it is not managed ) Choose a valid profile using the bottom option and save including this… If your issue is script related you can switch the app dialogs off…

Greetings Muppet Mark,

Thanks for the quick reply. I've posted in a couple of the forums with no results, and honestly I'm lost. I've worked in AI for 12 years and never experienced this problem. I've chosen a profile many times, opened the doc, made minor changes, saved, closed and re-opened to the same message. I’m actually not sure if it’s a Mac or Adobe issue.

I opened old files that haven't been worked on in a long time or possibly corrupted to the same message. I'm not sure which direction to go but I had noticed another post in this forum concerning ICC profiles so I posted.

Can you give me some direction on where to look for the answer, I have work that needs to go out to our printer and I don’t need any issues on that end.

Thanks for all your help and the dedication to monitoring these forums. It’s quite impressive how some of you have complete mastery of the not only the program but the code – wow!
