Move loose shapes to separate layers?

I have a single layer that has multiple shapes on one layer and I'd like it be separated to separate layers. There aren't individual paths layers, so I can't use the "Release to Layers" command. I there a faster way to get the loose paths to separate layers than having to select each one and manually move it? There are only 15 shapes, but still would be nice to not have to do manually. They're like one object, they don't ungroup but they aren't connected.  Thanks!
