Question

moved ai. file to new folder now its corrupted. cant find original

i tried organising my files into a new folder, and renamed the folder, (yes im stupid) but i thought by closing illustrator before hand that i could then reopen the file direct in the new location. this didnt work it said file is corrupted and only is one layer (thte top layer). Hours of work disappeared in a small mistake. No live chat or telephone help from Adobe? Ive paid them thousands of pounds over th elast ten years. help

@kieranp57241347 I agree with @Monika Gause with what they said. That shouldn’t corrupt your file. If you have a weird character like an asterix * or a tilde ~. You can’t find the original? Didn’t you just rename it? Can you take a screenshot of this filename and extension?

You could try and open in Acrobat and save it as a PDF with Illustrator Editing Capabilities; rename it with a different name and try opening in Illustrator?

Currently it looks like the PDF part of the file is still opening (the one with only one layer). But when you open it in Acrobat you will not magically get the AI part back.

Moving the file alone shouldn’t cause file corruption. Neither does renaming. Are the folder names probably very long? Are you opening the file directly from a file server?

    Do you have a backup?
