Question

Multiple artboards in a PDF are still multiple after splitting file in Acrobat

Let´s say I make a file with 3 artboards and save as a PDF. If I open the file in Acrobat Pro and split the file into 3 separate artboards (pages), these files look as desired in Acrobat Pro (1 page/file). But if I open any of these one page documents in Illustrator, all 3 artboards are still there. How do I prevent the deleted pages from showing in Illustrator after the file is split in Acrobat?

But it may be easier to create the separate PDFs in Illustrator.

Go to Edit > Adobe PDF Presets...

Select the preset you want to use.

Click the + sign to open the preset

Give it a name and turn off Illustrator Editing Capabilities.

Click OK.

When you go to Export > Export for Screens, you can export your Arboards as PDF

Click on the Cog wheel to edit the PDF settings and select your modified preset.

Click Save and from now on your PDF files do not contain the Illustrator part when exporting the artboards as separate PDFs.

If you save a file as PDF, Illustrator Editing Capabilities are checked by default.

This will embed the entire Illustrator file, including artboards and layers in the PDF.

After extracting pages in Acrobat, this Illustrator part is still there, as you can see when you open the file in Illustrator.

Turn Off the Illustrator Editing Capabilities option if you want to split the file in Acrobat and you do not need to edit it in Illustrator.

That must be it, thank you.

Hello @HenkeH2,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind sharing the exact details of your workflow, sample files after uploading it to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc., and a screen recording of the problem (https://adobe.ly/3SNYd2g), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
