My embedded images are just boxes!

adobe illustrator cc 2015.

i was working on a project when I received an error message saying I didn't have enough memory, so it took me to the outline mode.

i restarted the program and set it to GPU preview and now all my embedded images are just boxes. How do I get my images visible again?

    Hi Lhubbs,

You can try to switch to CPU mode (Ctrl+E) and check if you are able to see the images or not. Also check the "Overprint Preview" (Alt+Shift+Ctrl+Y). Share a screenshot of how it looks like in both modes so that we can suggest further.

    Regards,

    Om

    Before:

    After (CPU):

    After (Overprint):

Selection of the images so you can see the boxes where the images should be showing up:

The background layer is not above the image layer.

Thank you so much for you're help!

In the layer panel ,has the visibility eye icon a 'pupil' ?

if not Ctrl click it to toggle visibility back on

Try "Placing" (using File>Place) the images instead of embedding. It may save you enough to get the project done.

Thank you for the reply. I did place them, i guess placing them and embedding them arnt the same? I just assumed because when I clicked on the pictures they have the option to unembed. Is there another way to get them to show?
