My illustrator files opens in edge instead of app

Hi, 
I have been using illustrator app since past 2 years. But recently I have been facing the issue of opening the .ai file.

The file starts downloading in Microsoft edge, but doesn't open directly. I still can open it by right clicking on it and choosing ' Illustrator app' from the list of apps. ( it doesnt even show the option of 'Always open this file in Illustrator'

Would you mind changing the file association for the .AI filetype (Windows / macOS) to Illustrator and checking if it helps?
