My pen tool keeps all adapted lines visible

Hi, I'm running the test Illustrator this week.

I'm a beginner in this (but familiair with PS), so I did some basic practicing working with the pen tool and the paint brush.

But just now that I start to get the hang of it, strange things seem to be happening and I'm not sure what is causing it.

When I want a .25 paint brush line, it starts off with a thick 1. It also automatically resets the thickness to 1. After I adapt it back to .25, it does what I want. But then, the thick 1. line is still there, because when I delete it, the same ritual starts over again.

Also, the lines that I adapt with the pen tool, stay visible. So after 3 adaptations to make a fine curve, I have 3 lines. I cannot find anything in the forums about this kind of problem, so I start to think this is a problem within the program. But for now, I hope somebody has a more elegant answer than that ;0

Can anyone help me with this?

Oops, I discovered what I have been doing. I confused the use of alt while adapting, so I think I have been making new lines.

If you want a simple stroke on your path, don't draw with the brush tool. Use the pencil.

As for your pen tool problem: please tell us exactly what you are doing step by step.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for your quick reply. Here a screenshot of what happens, instead of lines, I used only the filling, but here it does the same.

I use the selection tool, click on the anchor and then shift the handle as needed. Just as in the tutorials I've been watching. On some places, it seems to work fine, and then suddenly it keeps the original drawing, like here.
