Need advice on how to make a photo into a panoramic web page header

Newbie here. I'm hoping someone can tell me how to modify a stock photo image to use as a web page header, by stretching one (plain) side of the image to make the image more panoramic. The far left of the image is 99% plain blue sky, so I had the idea of selecting a narrow vertical slice and then somehow stretching this background selection to the left to give it more of a 16:9 aspect ratio. Is this possible to do in Illustrator?

Open the photo in Photoshop, select the blank white area, the go to Edit, Fill, and from the drop-down menu, select "Content Aware". It should do a pretty good job of filling the area with sky. It's not always perfect, so you may need to use a few other tools, such as the clone stamp or spot healing brush.

Your advice was spot on - thank you. That feature filled the space perfectly with no need for further retouching.

Photoshop is made for pixel editing. Try the context sensitive functions.

Ok - thanks. I'll give it a try in PS.
