Neew Help With Simple Logo

I'd like to do a simple logo, somewhat like the one below. As you can see, the type would be similar, but just oddly shaped.

My question is: How do I create or modify the type to create a similar logo?

As you can tell, I'm not an artist, but perhaps you can see what I'm talking about.

Use rectangles and circles to construct it. Then the pathfinder panel to combine shapes.

Or your live paint for combining shapes.
