Question

New File measurements keep resetting to previously set defaults

Every time I create a New Document and start editing Width/Height/Bleed in Illustrator, it resets to previously present number in the field.
Example: you start a new document, default values that pop up are 290 x 360 mm, no bleed. You type in new values of 210 x 280 mm + 5mm bleed, and at random point in time it reverts to 290 x 360 + no bleed, you retype 210, 280 ... it reverts again. Happened up to 4 times during one document creation. Sometimes it even created a document with wrong/previous measurements while displaying right numbers in New Document window. (probably reverted a millisecond before Create button pressed). I didn't test other boxes because all my documents use millimeters as units, CMYK Color, 300 dpi and Default preview mode. This issue caused me to do my work over several times as final mesurements of artwork didn't match the required size and I didn't spot the wrong measurements from the start.
Photoshop and InDesign New Document creation windows work fine. I am using Creative Cloud latest program versions.

i have the same issue with all my adobe softwares. i have it already for over a year and it never got resolved. it doesnt jump back once or twice, sometimes multiple times until i can actually create a new doc with my desired measurements.

another issue i experience is that in my illustrator the property panel is weirdly stretched. the distance between each section is super long and i did everything from intsalling it new, reset everything, different versions etc. i have this issue in every illustrator version.

Hello @safak_isa_ancar,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble! Could you let me know which version of the OS and Illustrator you're using? Also, if possible, share a quick screen recording showing your workflow and the issue, that’ll help us reproduce it on our end.

In the meantime, you might want to try running Illustrator in Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and also test it using a different admin account (Windows / macOS) to see if that makes a difference.

Looking forward to your update!

August 2025 and the problem is still there on Mac and Windows too. I even formatted my PC and the problem is still there, so I know that is on Adobe side and they doesn't want to fix it.

Scrolling through this thread, many people are experiencing the exact same thing on Macs and PCs, yet Adobe cannot reproduce the issue? It occurs on my Mac at work, my laptop at home, and for a friend on their Mac at another company.

Hello @krtengesdal,

Could you try running Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and using a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and check if it helps?

If the problem persists, please let us know if it would be possible to have a debug session with us. If yes, please send me your Adobe email ID, Phone number with country code, preferred time and day for the meeting, your timezone, and country via DM.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Has there been a fix to this yet? Are they still doing debug sessions?

Thought it was better for a bit there, but I've been noticing it again lately. Most recently was just yesterday.

I never did the debug session the last time (just been too busy at work), but might also have some time to do that today/this week. I think one workaround, though, is to select the "Use legacy 'File New' interface" option (under Preferences - General - 9th one down on the left side).

I don't know if the debug session would fruitful, because I don't know when the issue will happen. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. It just appears to be so random -- doesn't happen every time. It's like bringing a car to the mechanic, saying it's making a noise, but then you get it there and they can't replicate it...

Same here. Only noticed it maybe two or three months ago, not every time but mostly in Illustrator. Only happens in creation of new documents – adjusting the page size of existing docs is fine.

Yep, now this poo is happening to me (using Illustrator)... SO AGGRAVATING.

Been having this same issue for a while and it is driving me crazy. It's doing it in InDesign, too. (Maybe Photoshop, but I'm not normally creating new documents there; I'm opening existing images/files.)

Yes i am having the same issue.  It's been a few weeks now i have noticed it.  The work around I have been using is just hitting tab and it resets after cycling it about 3 or 4 times.  I was hoping for an Bug Update fix recently but in the past releases there hasn't been any change.

I had exactly the same issue since updating to 28.7.1  and this was obviously a bug - I have just updated to 28.7.2 and the issue seems to have resolved.

I have the same issue with all my systems and all Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign programs. Latest versions. It started with Photoshop on my side as well and went further to the other two.

The same issue has been happening with my Adobe programs as well.  I believe it's been going on for over a year ... I just live with it but I'd love to see it fixed.
