New Release Properties Panel Oddity

The Properties panel doesn't seem to have any way of turning on or off the visibility of effects you have applied to the selection. For context, I am using the same group of objects in several places. All the groups have a feather effect applied, but I have it hidden on some of the groups. It appears I have to use the Appearance panel to change that visibility.

That seems a bit short of the goal of the Properties panel, which otherwise seems good addition to the kit so far.

    The selected field is the edit tab from the Properties panel.

    Also, no direct access to the gradient panel from the Properties fill box of an object with a gradient fill (not in this screen shot, different part of the job)
