I haven't used Illustrator in a very long time and it's changed quite a bit. I'm trying to get started with a current file I've done in another program. Currently it's a PNG file (I also have it in JPEG). May sound like a DQ (dumb question) but where to begin? I'm mainly trying to change the font on this design, and I can't seem to click just on the text section to do any editing. It just selects the entire design. Anyone that would like to help a somewhat newbie out with getting started? Thanks in advance

A PNG is a raster file which means that the entire image is one flattened piece—the type is not live so you can't edit it. A file created in Illustrator and saved as an .ai file is a vector file and all of its components are selectable and editable. If you want to change your type you will either have to recreate the whole thing as a vector file in Illustrator or possibly open it in Photoshop and basically retouch out the type you don't want and then either change its format to a layered psd file which you can then add live type layers to or import the retouched background image into Illustrator (or even InDesign) and add your new type there.
