Question

Newest version of Illustrator 29.1 slows down whole windows PC and barely opens and does anything.

Since I've updated to that version I am not able to open Illustrator without my entire PC getting slowed down at stupid levels.

I have done what other posts have said on their answers, like setting the vram and stuff, and nothing works.

I have always worked flawlessly on this app and now, when I most need it, it's failing, I, please, need help.

64 GB RAM, 2TB Storage, 3080 Super 10GB, AMD Ryzen 5 8600G.

Windows 11 Pro. Never had nor have now performance issues.

I've had several issues from files crashing, to files not saving properly and random font changes when editing text. I had so many issues I went back to 28 and everything was fine. Nothing I currently do is super complet the crashing and file saving issues seem so out of the norm for me. I do a ton of work with text so my issues with fonts changing are a PITA.

Hello @summerf96627424,

I'm sorry to learn about the issues you're encountering with font changes while editing text in Illustrator. Our team has made efforts to address this in the latest beta version, which should be included in the upcoming general release of Illustrator. You can upvote this UserVoice to keep informed about the updates (https://adobe.ly/3P1Y1ua).

Could you please install the latest beta version of Illustrator to check if it resolves the issue (https://adobe.ly/3ZZjKZG)? Alternatively, consider disabling the Missing Glyph Protection option in Preferences > Type in Illustrator 29.1 and let us know your findings.

For assistance with crashes and file-saving problems, please provide additional information, such as the specific OS version, the folder path where you're opening/saving your files, and whether Illustrator crashes when using a certain tool/feature/file.

I look forward to your response.

After spending a whole day on finding a solution to this. Here is the solution. Downgrade to version 28.5 and uninstall the latest version. Everything will be smooth like a butter.

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to learn about the crashing problems faced in the newest version of Illustrator. To assist the product team in investigating this issue further, I will require some additional information:

> Have you attempted the recommendations provided in this help article: https://adobe.ly/3ZQaZkL

> Does the issue occur sporadically, when working on a specific file (or a file located in a certain place), or while using a particular tool/feature?

> Additionally, please submit the crash report using your Adobe email address and share it here for efficient tracking. Instructions can be found here: (https://adobe.ly/3ZQaZRN).

Thank you for your time and understanding as we work to resolve this matter.

Is the driver for your computer's graphics card up to date? If there are any attached periphreals, such as a graphics tablet, make sure the drivers for those devices are current as well.

Yes sir, everything is up to date, did a mass driver updating a few weeks prior and everything went smoothly.

Did check for updates tho, but nothing.

And no, I have no peripherals, only mouse and keyboard, both with fully updated razer drivers.

I think the version 29.1 release has some kinks in it. I have a prior version of Illustrator installed alongside v29.1 to get around some different bugs in the current version. If no other solutions are working you might have to do the same thing.

In case you don't know this already, prior versions of Illustrator can be installed via the Creative Cloud Desktop App. Open the Apps panel. The box where Illustrator is listed should have a little three dots icon. Click the three dots icon to reveal a flyout out menu. "Other Versions" will be an item on that menu.
