Question

No Handles on Anchors

I've seen quite a few posts about handles not appearing on paths even when the direct selection tool is being used.  I'm having the same issue.

Things I have tried:

1. Restarted my computer

2. Closed and restarted Illustrator

3.  Updated Illustrator via Creative Cloud app

4.  Uninstalled Illustrator along with deleting all user preferences

5.  Reinstalled the most recent version of Illustrator

6. Checked if Edges and Bounding boxes are hidden.  Both via keyboard shortcuts and through the View menu.

7. Checked the box for "Show handles when multiple anchors are selected" in  the Selection and Anchor Display portion of the Preferences menu.

What seems to get the handles back is if I select my path using the direct selection tool and click the "Convert selected anchor points to smooth" option.

This is a temporary fix but whats odd is I've never had to do this before.  This only started happening about a day ago.

Is there a way to convert all my paths to smooth to ensure each new path I create will have anchor points?

I'm using Windows 10 and Adobe Illustrator CC.

    skillmill,

Maybe far too far out, but you may try to click View>Hide Edges (and see whether it remains as Hide Edges), then click again until it says Show Edges, and again until it says Hide Edges; then see whether it works (and keeps working).

No luck.  I click Hide Edges and can see the color representing the path disappear.  Then when I click Show Edges, it comes back.  However, still no handles.

The handles are not present even when using the Pen tool.  They only appear when I click and drag the mouse when placing my first anchor using the pen tool.  However, there is no handle on the last anchor, once I ctrl click to finish creating the path.

    What happened a day ago?

    A Windows update?

    Graphics card driver update?

Did you perhaps install some plugin?

Can you try and View > Preview on CPU? Or disable the GPU acceleration in the preferences?
