No layers when re-opening PDF

Question

I have been working on a Design for 2 days. I have saved the file every half an hour and check was checking my work consistantly. My computer was really slow and I had to close everythign down and restart my computer. On opening the file from the recent (and seeing all of the layers and elements spread far and wide in the small window, on opening the file, it had been flattened and all of my layers had disappeared. I can see them in the file under recent, but it wont open. I am freaking out!!! How do I recover the entire file with all of its layers! Please help!

The file got saved with "Illustrator editability". Either because you did that by accident or because of a crash. Or because of the preference setting "Save in background"

Saving your work every half hour is a good thing. Relying on just one copy of the file is not. You need to save different versions. Do you perhaps have something like Time Machine installed that allows you to go back to an earlier version of the file?
