Not able to use swatches in Illustrator

Hi I can't change colors permanently or create a library. I cant make any changes to the gradients beside the default setting no matter what I try there are no swatches on the side of my screen and it won't let me change colors. I downloaded to most recent version and have a new computer I have no idea what is going on. I have gone through several forms already and they have not been helpful. If anyone has any idea what is going on please reach out.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing version of the Illustrator & OS? Please make sure you have GPU & OS updated to the latest version. Additionally, you may try resetting preferences of the Adobe Illustrator and let us know if it helps.

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Ashutosh

Did you by any chance open a raster image file? Rasters have no built in Swatch library.

What exactly are you doing step by step?

Can you show a screenshot of your work area?

Without any exact system info nobody can tell you much. Since this is a new computer, chances are you may need to spend some time configuring it suitably, i.e. fixing your user permissions, verifying folder access and updating drivers. A lot of this stuff is often done poorly with factory defaults and drivers can easily be outdated within a few weeks these days.
