Question

Not enough RAM

I have been using Illustrator for a while now. I recently started doing some 3D work. Whenever I use Illustrator to use the 3D classic effects, it comes up with a message saying, "We hit a roadblock! There isn't enough available memory (RAM). Try to update Illustrator and your graphics card to the latest version and restart your computer. Still no luck, submit the crash report."

I already updated Illustrator and the graphics card to the latest version. I also reset the preferences in Illustrator. Furthermore, I also removed unnecessary files to an external drive.

Despite doing this, Illustrator has still discovered that there isn't enough RAM to work properly.

I would appreciate it if you could help me with this query. Look forward to your reply.

Please tell us your OS version and how much RAM you have.

Illustrator's requirements are 8 GBs _minimum_ with 16 GB recommended. Eight GB will let you get by with basic functions but not more advanced ones.

Check to see what your computer system is cablable of holding and see if it is cost effective to upgrade the RAM.

Hi @Fiona_Baanah-Jones2231,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details. Could you please confirm if you're using Illustrator v30.0 (the latest release)? Also, please let me know if this issue occurs only with Classic 3D effects or with any of the 3D and Materials effect options as well. Please ensure your system meets the requirements listed here: Illustrator on desktop technical requirements
You can also check out this similar community thread and try the suggestions shared there: 3D Illustrator error — “We’ve hit a roadblock! There isn’t enough available memory (RAM)”

If the issue persists, try restarting your computer, launching Illustrator without any other heavy applications running, and testing the 3D effect on a simple object to see if the error still appears. You can also start your system in Safe Mode to rule out any third-party plugin or software conflict (ref: Microsoft Safe Mode guide).

If the issue persists, please share your system specifications, including RAM size, GPU model, and Windows version, so I can investigate this further.

Looking forward to your update.

Yes. I am using the latest version of Illustrator v30.0. The issue occurs with Classic 3D effects. I have checked the recommended system requirements for Illustrator and my system specifications.

I will check the similar community thread and try the suggestions.
