not retaining existing font style when editing text?

This has been a frustration of mine for a few weeks now -- not sure if a setting got changed but if I go to click into some text to change the content and begin typing, the style of the font of what I'm typing changes - sometimes it's the font weight, color, etc.

Is there a way to set my default back to "Match Text Formatting" when editing existing text so that the styling stays the same?
